Skin Smart Defense Workshop
(14 April 2007, Goodwood Park Hotel, Poolside Terrace)

Saturday 14 Apr 2007 - More than 50 guests congregated at the Goodwood Park Hotel's Poolside Terrace to meet International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica's Educator, Ms Liz Fardon (who has over 20 years of experience in the Skin and Spa Body Industry) for the launch of Dermalogica's New Solar Defense System.

With the sunny weather and cool blue waters of the pool, it was a perfect backdrop for the subject of sun protection! Ms Fardon began the workshop by explaining about the skin structure and how different electromagnetic spectrums of the Ultraviolet (UV) rays and daylight affects the skin. Potential damages to the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin were also elaborated in detail.

Ms Fardon highlighted a key concern amongst consumers - Sun Protection Factor (SPF). She spoke about how SPFs worked and the ideal SPF number to be used on the skin for optimal daylight protection. Presentation slides featuring various bad skin conditions as a result of UV ray damage were also shown - including a few alarming pictures! However, much to the audiences' delight was the launch of Dermalogica's latest Solar Defense System which incorporated high doses of antioxidants into the solar products via the UV Smart Booster Technology (a customized microcapsule technology that safeguards active vitamins and then releases them only upon contact with UV rays for maximum free radical protection). As an extension to the current range of Ultra Sensitive FaceBlock SPF 25, Solar Defense Booster SPF 30, Full Spectrum Wipes SPF 15, Solar Shield SPF 15, and After Sun Repair, five new products have been added to the product line.
They include :

  • Oil Free Matte Block SPF 20;
  • Super Sensitive FaceBlock SPF 30;
  • Extra Rich FaceBlock SPF 30;
  • MultiVitamin BodyBlock SPF 20; and
  • WaterBlock Solar Spray SPF 30.
The latest range of products under the Dermalogica Solar Defense System not only provides enhanced photo-protection and free radical protection but also maximum solar defense against the sun's rays. Ms Fardon further interest the workshop participants with a Dermalogica treatment ('live' demonstration) for premature ageing and hyper-pigmentation.

As if Mother Nature read the audiences' minds, intermittent light rain and a light breeze helped to cool off the afternoon heat, which made the guests feel more comfortable in enjoying the workshop under the terrace of the poolside. The guests indulged in a selection of high tea snacks, and got to be the few privileged consumers in Singapore to sample the new solar products first. The feedback : "light texture", "non-greasy" and "an ideal choice for Asian skin which is mostly oily or combination".
