1.
Why are there still blemishes/marks on my
skin, even after treatments?
Ans : This may be due to skin that is
still weak and is poor in healing. How fast your blemishes
are able to heal is a reflection of how strong
your skin is.

small it is, it will leave a mark!

why Leonard Drake's treatment aims to minimise
and reduce marks, blemishes and scars in the
shortest possible time. In order to strengthen
your skin, maximise healing and promote skin
regeneration, we ensure that with each visit,
your skin receives a complete therapeutic healing
- detoxifies, calms and destress, heals and
hydrates, using a combination of stress reduction
therapies.
With
your co-operation in your frequency of visit
for Leonard Drake's professional treatment
and our commitment, we can ensure your skin
health is optimised and a smoother complexion
is achieved.

2.
Why do blackheads still occur after "extraction"?
Ans : Blackheads are open comedones usually concentrated on the t-zone area. It is the weakest link to an acne breakout.
Sebaceous or oil glands are a part of our skin structure and the number of oil glands is determined genetically. The oil gland is usually active during puberty and will slow down towards the mid-late thirties.
Normal blackheads will not give any skin problem. It is the open comedones which are a result of overactive oil glands that can turn into an acne. These oil glands are easily over activated by stress hormone imbalance, as well as humid climate and is worsened by comedogenic skincare products & cosmetics. The over-active open comedones are visible again and again because it takes time and effort to soothe down the over-stimulated oil glands.
Extraction is necessary to refine your complexion and is a good method to control formation of problematic blackheads and to prevent serious acne problem. However, self-extraction usually aggravates blackheads and ends with scarring. Leonard Drake's treatments are aimed at controlling excessive production of oil, and with soothing elements and skilled extraction techniques, the skin is kept clear and the acne problem is reduced.

4. How can I "close" my
pores and make it smaller?
Ans : Scientifically it is not possible to "close" or change the size of your pores. The size of your pores is determined generically. A "pore" is actually the opening of a hair follicle, and it is from this opening that the skin's natural oil or sebum is excreted onto your skin's surface.
When the skin produces a large amount of sebum/oil, this can enlarge the opening and make the pore appear bigger. Over production of sebum or oil is caused by:
- genetic
inheritance
- comedogenic
skin care and cosmetics
- environment and pollution, as well as other factors such as stress and poor diet
- chronological ageing
Leonard Drake's Skin Refining and Deep Pore Clarifying Therapies are specially designed to immediately hydrate and refine your complexion.
Effective home-use products are recommended as well such as Eve Taylor Aromatherapy Oils that soothe and balance the oil production and Averine Cosmetics which are non-comedogenic, and protecting and nurturing to the skin.

5. How do I know when my skin is sensitised?
Ans : Take a moment to review your skin and your lifestyle... and if you answer "yes" to 3 or more of the following questions, then it is likely your skin's tolerance level is low. It would be beneficial to have a thorough skin consultation whereby a professionally-trained Leonard Drake skincare therapist can help you take preventive and corrective measures.
- Is
your skin easily irritated?
- Do you experience redness or rash?
- Do you spend most of the day/night in an air-con environment?
- Are you overworked and often stressed?
- Are you a smoker?
- Do you hang out in smoky places?
- Are you constantly exposed to the outdoors?

6. Can I exfoliate my sensitised/sensitive skin?
Ans : All types of skin need some exfoliation, whether to a lesser or higher degree to shed off old skin cells and to allow new skin cells to emerge for younger looking skin.
Gentle exfoliation is possible after your rash/redness/itchiness have subsided. Check out Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant especially for the more sensitive skin as it is gentle enough to be used daily.

7. Why is hot water bad for my sensitive
skin?
Ans : The reason is that hot water (as well as soap & water, or incorrect shaving methods) actually weakens the skin's barrier function.
When the outermost layer of cells and lipids are degraded, minute cracks develop that allow ingredients to penetrate to the dermis or surface causing trans-epidermal water loss. The skin becomes dehydrated and more reactive to any trigger factors such sun exposure.
